Chapter Twenty-Nine – Outback Brides Series

Maggie’s Run
by Kelly Hunter

Maggie’s Run is the first book in new multi-author Outback Brides series.

Welcome to the town of Wirralong, filled with fun-loving people with some wonderful stories.

In this book we have the Story of Maggie Walker. Maggie has returned home to Wirra Station after the death of her great Aunt Carmel. She has not been home in a long time, as she still struggles with the tragic death of her parents in a car accident when she was eleven years old. She has inherited Wirra Station and has come home to tidy up and to sell it, but place in disrepair.

Max O’Connor is the cowboy-next-door and back on the day of the family tragedy he was the one to save Maggie from the accident that took her parents lives. He is a successful sheep farmer and want Maggie to return Wirra to it’s former glory and also be able to use Wirra land for his sheep. He gets Maggie to agree to stay for 3 months and repair the homestead.

Maggie and Max’s story is so heart-warming and enjoyable. It is a beautiful story, with a touch of romance, dealing with the past and making new friends and wonderful memories.

The detailed descriptions will make you feel as if you are there at Wirralong with all the characters. Kelly has really created some great characters and the story has a realistic feeling to it. There are lots of twist and turns in this book that will have the reader not wanting to put it down until the final page is turned.

This book and the others in this series could be read as standalone.

I would highly recommend this book. I am looking forward to continuing reading in this series.

Kelly Hunter

auth_KellyHunter-500x500Accidentally educated in the sciences, Kelly Hunter didn’t think to start writing romances until she was surrounded by the jungles of Malaysia for a year and didn’t have anything to read. Eventually she decided that writing romance suited her far better than throwing sterile screw-worm flies out of airplane windows and changed careers. Kelly now lives in Australia, surrounded by lush farmland and family, 2 dogs, 3 miniature cows, a miniature pig, a 3-legged cat and a small flock of curious chickens. There are still flies, but their maggots don’t feed on flesh. Bargain. Kelly is a USA Today bestselling author, a three-time Romance Writers of America RITA finalist and loves writing to the short contemporary romance form.

Belle’s Secret

by Victoria Purman

Belle’s Secret is the second book in new multi-author Outback Brides series.

In this book we have story of Isabella Martenson. She entered the series in Maggie’s Run as the marriage celebrant and Maggie’s best friend. She now lives and works at Wirra Station with Maggie.

Marriage celebrant Isabella has a secret that she has kept for the past year. She went to Vegas for a conference and married Harry Harrison. But she left him without saying goodbye the next morning. She is married and no one knows.
Harry Harrison is a winemaker from California, he has spent the year looking for his Belle and wondered why she just disappeared. All he knew was she was from Australia. A chance meeting or is it fate has brought the two back together at his mate’s wedding at Wirra Station. Now that he has found her, he wants some answers and a divorce. Isabella agreed to the divorce as long as he keeps their marriage a secret.

Now that they are spending time together Isabella is realising her feeling for Harry are still there and just maybe she does not want that divorce after all.

Victoria Purman has continued with the fantastic characters of Wirralong and brought her own to it. I did really enjoy reading about Bella and Harry and the rest of the community. I am really falling in love with all of the wonderful characters and their lives.

There were some inconsistencies but it did not take away from the overall story and it was a well written and definitely left me wanting more from Wirralong and The Outback Brides. As the saying goes ‘what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas’.

This book and the others in this series could be read as standalone.

I would recommend this book. I am looking forward to continuing reading in this series.

Elsa’s Stand

by Cathryn Hein

Elsa’s Stand is the third book in new multi-author Outback Brides series.

In this book we have story of Elsa O’Donoghue. Elsa is the owner of Hair Affair and the hairdresser and she is a part of all the stories so far. Elsa is a hard-working woman and she has such a warm heart that will make you fall in love with her. She is strong-willed and will not let anything stop her getting what she wants.

Jack Hargreaves has returned to Wirralong after his mother’s death. He enters Hair Affair on his way to his mother’s funeral to get a quick haircut, but Elsa is too busy with a wedding party. So, Jack walks over to the trolley with her clippers on it and helps himself and has a quick shave with the beard trimmers and before leaving he drops a hundred bucks on the counter.

Elsa is drooling when he leaves and strips off his shirt in the main street outside her shop to change for the funeral.

Jack left Wirralong many years ago after the town had judged him on his father’s wrong doings. He has been an opal miner since then with his own claim. He is staying at his mother’s property and repairing it as she had let it go into disrepair, in her search for sapphires on the property. Jack had a call from her before she died saying she had found them but had reburied them. Now Jack was searching for the illusive sapphires.

Elsa’s Stand is another fun-loving story in this fantastic series. There are many twists that will once again keep the reader hooked until the very end. I totally enjoy how Cathryn has written the characters in this book and how realistic she has made the story feel. We feel every single emotion along with the characters and we laugh and cry at times and then feel frustrated at other times. We all know how true it is to be judged by communities on past family mistakes. People are always quick to judge and not give the benefit of the doubt. It is why I likes Elsa so much as she was not like that she trusted Jack for who he was.

This book and the others in this series could be read as standalone.

I would highly recommend this book. I am looking forward to continuing reading in this series.

A South Australian country girl by birth, Cathryn loves nothing more than a rugged rural hero who’s as good with his heart as he is with his hands, which is probably why she writes them! Her aim is to make you smile, sigh, and perhaps sniffle a little, but most of all feel wonderful.

 Fiona McArthur

FullSizeRender-1XcopyX4XX1X-500x500Fiona McArthur has written more than forty books and shares her medical knowledge and her love of working with women, families and emergency services in her stories. In her compassionate, pacey fiction, her love of the Australian landscape meshes beautifully with warm, funny, multigenerational characters as she highlights challenges for rural and remote families, and the strength shared between women. She always champions the underdog, and the wonderful, ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Then that bit of drama thrown in because who doesn’t love a few tears, a heartfelt sigh of relief and a big happy smile at the end? Make that gorgeous man earn the right to win his beautiful and strong-willed heroine’s heart because that’s something she believes in. And, absolutely, happy endings are a must.
